We believe it is possible to do well and do good. We achieve sustainable growth through the wellbeing of ourselves, our communities, our customers and the environment. The longer we’ve had this philosophy, the better we have got at it. We understand that business does not have to just be about business.
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
We see sustainability as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of our existing stakeholders or future generations to meet their own needs.
We support the UN Sustainable Development Goals which provide a framework for governments, the private and public sector and individuals to work together to create a more sustainable future by achieving the targets set by 2030.
Technological disruption, climate change, political uncertainty, and resource and skills scarcity are all driving change in every sector for our clients. All these drivers are innovating the world we live in and opening up sustainable business model opportunities in all sectors.
What we do has the power to bring about change, in the way people feel, think and behave. We aim to play our part through changes and improvements we are making to our own business and through our work for clients on social and environmental themes.
We have analysed the 17 SDGs and the 169 targets that sit behind them to determine which are the most relevant to our business.
We have identified below the three where we can make the most impact. This will form the basis of our Corporate Social Responsibility Report that will be published for the first time in 2020.
Relevant SDGs and where we make most impact
Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages
Our people are not restricted by where or when they work. We are entirely distributed, working from wherever is most convenient and where we feel most comfortable. There is no 9-5pm – meaning life outside of work can be fulfilled too.
Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all
Wherever our people choose to live, they can work in one of our businesses. We are entirely flexible, so people who have childcare and family commitments can work with us too. We are entirely employee-owned, with each business and team determining their own business plans.
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impact
Our distributed business model means that, for example, our carbon emissions are drastically lower than any agencies of a similar size. We save 764 miles per day commuting; a massive 7.42 tonnes per person per year. Our CSR report, that will be published in the spring 2020, will show our approach in more detail, measure our impact and detail our targets for the future.
Community is important to us all at Emberson. As we work flexibly, we are able to actively participate in our local community life and are finding our ‘mojo’ in activities and causes outside of work too. We are proud to support Bath Mind as our charity of the year in 2020 through fundraising and offering our time.
