At Emberson we often talk about being distinctly different and a new kind of agency, often using the hashtags #AgencyOfTheFuture, #WaysToMakeTheDifference and #PeopleFirst. But what does this really mean?
Emberson is an independent group of employee-owned brand, marketing and lead generation agencies. And there are three important words right there:
The reason we exist is to make a positive, notable and measurable impact to our clients’ profits and performance, to our people and to all our stakeholders. To achieve this, we took the old agency model and turned it on its head.
Entirely distributed yet always connected
We don’t have fancy, expensive offices; we are a completely distributed workforce. Let’s pause and think about that for a moment, because it’s important to note the distinction between being entirely distributed and ‘flexible working’ or the rather lonely-sounding ‘remote working’ where the reality is often doing five days’ work within four days, or being ‘allowed’ to work from home occasionally or once a week.
Embracing a digital framework from day one, alongside our robust business management tools, has enabled our people to be the independent, intelligent and trusted adults that they are and choose where they work from, when and how. This also allows us to follow the best talent wherever they are in the world.
Our people are brilliant at what they do; world-class. So they are empowered to make decisions about how to run their business and organize their workload. It’s about them choosing the right environment to allow them to shine to their full potential. We don’t chain people to the same desk day in and day out and expect them to be creative. And we don’t want, or need, micro-management, command and control, or ego-led businesses.
This model also enables people to organize their time around other important events and moments in their lives. To focus on family, hobbies, health and wellbeing or whatever is important to them. We believe we outperform our competitors emotionally, and as a result, happy people = happy clients.
Each agency has the freedom to focus on their customers
There are three distinct specialist agencies (Emberson Brand, Emberson Marketing and Emberson LeadGen) operating under Emberson Group.
Each of these agencies is customer-centric not only because they are specialists in their field (Brand, Marketing, Lead Generation) but also because they don’t need to worry about the running of the business, as these functions are provided by Group (i.e. HR, Legal, Finance, Leadership and Compliance). And often the creative people are not the strongest business people and vice versa. It’s all about having the right people in the right roles and not trying to push a square peg into a round hole; it doesn’t work.
This frees them from faff and gives them the independence and freedom they need to run the business how they want to and focus on their customers.
We are all in it for the long term
In 2017 Emberson became employee-owned – this means our people have increased motivation, increased inspiration and increased responsiveness every day. We are all in it for the long term which in turn means an enhanced and changed agency experience for the customer.
People are at the heart of what we do: our people are professional, focused, collaborative and proud of their work and of Emberson.
